Q: What should I wear to my first lesson?

• Pants: Long, comfortable pants like leggings or jeans (no shorts).
 • Footwear: Boots with a small heel, like paddock boots or work boots (no sneakers or open-toed shoes).
 • Helmet: Safety helmets are required. If you don’t have one, we have a few you can borrow until you get your own.

Q: What do I need to bring to my first lesson?

Accepted Answer

Just bring yourself, a positive attitude, and a water bottle! We’ll provide the horses, tack, and equipment you’ll need for the ride.

Q: How long are lessons?

Accepted Answer

Lessons are typically 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the rider’s age, experience, and stamina. All lessons include time to tack up and untack, so ride time can vary depending on riders experience level and time management skills. Experienced riders are welcome to come 10-15 minutes early for their lesson however an experienced adult or handler must be with all children under 18 in the pastures at all time due to safety.

Q: What disciplines can I learn at Top Bar Farm?

Our program develops well-rounded riders with a strong foundation in horsemanship. While we don’t specialize in one single discipline, our students often explore hunter/jumper, western, trail riding, and 4-H activities. Our teaching approach is tailored to individual goals and interests.
